13.06.14 Chacao Bridge
Aas-Jakobsen will, together with the French consultant company Systra, and the contractors Hyundai Engineering and Construction from South Korea and OAS from Brazil, build a bridge connecting Chile's largest island with the mainland. The bridge will be built as a two-span suspension bridge with main spans of 1055 and 1155 meters, and with a total length of 2750 meters. Planned completion of the bridge is in 2019. Key challenges in the project, in addition to the bridge configuration with two long main spans, includes cooperation across different countries and cultures, tight financial requirements and that the bridge is to be built in an area subjected to many large earthquakes.
